News Flash…

Home Canned Foods

contain only 20% to 40% of the nutrients

God put into it.

The high temperatures and extended time under presser destroys 60% to 80% of nutrients in canned foods.

U.S.D.A. Research Services Division

Yes, that's right.... according to U.S.D.A:

Nurtritional Nasties Meadow Gold Viva 1% Chocolate Lowfat Milk

Viva 1% Lowfat Chocolate Milk

I saw this in the grocery department in Wal-Mart recently.  Some woman had picked up two of them and placed them in her basket. She was buying them for her kids.  Apparently, they don’t drink white milk.

Foraging for Rose Hips

Rose hips develop at the base of a rose blossom after it dies.

It literally is the single most power packed little bundle of vitamin C God ever created. Surprisingly, they are related to apples.

Should you find yourself and your family in a survival situation, then you really need to include rosehips in your diet. Lack of vitamin C can cause scurvy and all sorts of health problems.  Even in the dead of winter, you can get added nutrients from rose hips.

Why Dehydrate Your Own Food?

(Prepared by University of Utah Cooperative Extension Service)

Drying of Food at Home
Preserving food by drying is the oldest method of food preservation. Sun drying of fruits
and vegetables was practiced before biblical times by Chinese, Hindus, Persians, Greeks
and Egyptians.

Tomatoes on sale

Dried foods have the advantages of taking up very little space, not requiring refrigeration and providing variety to the diet. They are good for backpacking, lunches, camping, and snacks in general.

Linda's Note: Plus, you can save a ton of money on groceries if you watch the sales and buy in bulk!  You can dehydrate all that extra food and store it long before it will spoil.

Making the Best of Basics

This is an excellent book. If you can only afford one book, this is the one to buy.  I keep my copy of
Making the Best of Basics Family Preparedness Handbook  by James Talmage Stevens on hand at all times..  This is probably the first survivalist book I ever purchased.
