Dehydrating Button Mushrooms

Whole Button Mushrooms

I wondered what would happen if I dried small button mushrooms.  First, I removed the stems, and then peeled if necessary.  I placed them on the racks and let them dry slowly, at 115 degrees for two days.  I also put some in the FoodPantrie and let them dry for five days.

Cleaning Mushrooms

15 packages of mushrooms for 69¢ per package!

I can’t afford the price or luxury of buying perfect, new mushrooms. So I settle for those that are a little bruised and marked down. I guess if I didn’t care for mushrooms, I wouldn’t bother, but I dearly love mushrooms.

On cannot have too many mushrooms in one’s life!

The Savory Wild Mushroom

I recently found this great little book at a used bookstore.  The Savory Wild Mushroom by Margaret McKenny, revised and enlarged by Daniel E. Stuntz covers all sorts of edible wild mushrooms.
