Storing Your Herbs and Spices

Herbs and spices are probably the single-most expensive food item you buy.  It will behoove you to store them carefully. No matter how pretty, never store your herbs and spices in those decorative little bottles hanging in a rack on your kitchen wall.

They need to be stored in airtight containers in a cool dark place.  They need to be protected from exposure to light and moisture.

The herbs and spices I use regularly are stored in the kitchen cabinet. One box for herbs and one box for spices.

I buy herbs and spices I can’t grow when they are on sale.  These extra bottles are kept in a kitty litter bucket in the front bedroom.  It is food safe.
